Description
The captivating medallion and corner pattern are the first things you’ll notice on this rug. It has the signature diamond-shaped medallion but also with some details closely linked to the main inspiration of this rug- a lotus. Featuring a vibrant red field with a dark blue frame. The smart use of light blue for the frame border creates the layers of depth of this rug.
Kashan is renowned for its asymmetrical knots- Senneh. You can see very intricate patterns on this rug because the pile is intentionally clipped short to show the high resolution of the hand-crafted art. Although it has a shorter pile it is soft to the touch because of the high knot count, 256KPSI, and also 100% of premium Sabzevar wool. This rug took a total of 11,964 hours to weave. *Try to just sit down and draw circles for 2 hours, you’ll know what it really means by almost 12,000 hours…
The cotton foundation is what makes this rug durable and strong. This rug is estimated at 70-80 years old and yet still as beautiful and in excellent condition as new. The colors are still as vibrant and even, thanks to the all-natural dyes. This rug may even live to outlast you. Therefore, it is not uncommon that Kashan is part of the inheritance in the royal and elite families.
The Lotus Mirror
Stare at the center medallion, you’ll see a – Lotus.
What is the first feeling that comes up to you when you see a lotus? Calmness. Purity. Tranquility. Resilience. Beauty. These are just a few to mention.
Remember the myths about lotus-eater? In modern times, we may denote lotus-eater as people who care less about the surrounding events and indulge in pleasure only. However, from the spiritual point of view, one can also denote the tribe as desireless and has achieved peace within and thus, be happy in life.
Observe the arabesques of floral and foliage on this rug closely, you may find more and more signs of lotus flowers. They are all intertwined and connected at different depths. Thus, the lotus also represents connections, because lotus flowers are connected underneath with the lotus roots. It symbolizes all life forms are fundamental as one and also intertwine with each other.
Lotuses only grow in really swampy areas, which symbolizes this idea that out of chaos, destruction, and unrest, life still comes together as perfect, as beautiful as it could get. Emerging from murky water with clean petals, the lotus is thought of as a symbol of purity and transcendence, as well as spiritual purification and liberation (aka Nirvana).
