Part 1 – Lesson [4 of 5] – Condition of Persian Rugs

This is part of our Ultimate Rug Purchasing Lesson Part 1 Series:

  1. Quick Start Rug Checklist Intro
  2. Types of Persian Rugs
  3.  Age of Persian Rugs
  4. Condition of Persian Rugs
  5. Quality of Persian Rugs

With age, rugs can, of course, take a few knocks and scrapes….

…so be sure that the rug you buy hasn’t taken too much damage, or that it can be professionally repaired easily.

Wool rugs are extremely durable — as their pile is thick and strong.

They offer a natural resistance to spills, stains, and foot traffic.

And although silk is a strong natural fiber, silk rugs are more delicate.

The older a rug is the more ‘life’ it has lived.

On older rugs, check for holes, moth damage, fraying fringes / edge.

When you’re buying from a reputable dealer, they will have done all that work for you.

The condition leads us to the overall…

QUALITY!

Which we’ll discuss tomorrow.
