1) What inspired you to begin your Persian rug collection?
I have been fascinated by Oriental rugs since I was a child. The Chicago Tribune often ran advertisements of rugs. I cut out some of the advertisements because the rugs were so artistic and frankly beautiful.
2) How long have you been collecting rugs and how many rugs do you own so far?
I have been collecting rugs for the past 20 years. I have 7 genuine Persian (Iranian) rugs.
3) What particular selection criteria do you have when buying a rug? Please share your tips and tricks with other rug enthusiasts.
I want a rug that is artistic, durable and reflects the craftmanship of the weaver. I want something that stands out in terms of color, complexity and design. It has to be a rug that gets your attention. I don’t want a rug that is only black and red. Color is very important. That’s why I look for a true Persian rug. You see the quality, the workmanship. The artistic design is there whether it’s a Sarouk or a Heriz. The style reflects the preferences of the area where it was woven. Each rug has it’s own personality.
4) Why did you Choose Catalina?
I bought rugs from Catalina because the rugs were genuine, of high quality, and well displayed. This provides a wide inventory to chose from, as well as allows for comparison from rug to rug. The age of the rug, the pile thickness, the knot number, and the time needed to produce the rug are all specified. The purchases I have made at Catalina rug have been very satisfying. Delivery has been prompt and has gone without issues.
