Description
The first ever Kerman Carpets were woven.
Known as both a city and a province…
Kerman sits on a high-margin in the Lut Desert.
Surrounded by mountains, with snow capped peaks…
During winter, the place gets cold, bitter cold.
Which is one of the secrets why Kerman Carpets are so unique.
It’s because of the wool.
Carmania wool.
The Incredible Carmania Wool
With such varied terrain, the temperature changes fast, which creates incredibly resilient sheep and as a result, an incredible silky wool sheen as they roam.
Which is sheared and woven into each Kerman Rug — giving it a superior look, feel and finish.
Notable Features Of Kerman Rug
Now, Kerman rugs are also prized for:
A wide range of designs.
Their broad palette.
Natural dyes and fibers.
Great tensile strength and abrasion resistance.
And, expert color combinations.
Which brings us to today’s rug.
The Kerman Rug we’re looking at is hand-knotted with 100% wool pile and a cotton foundation.
It has a floral design and the pattern is very delicate, with many small flowers and thin branches… and a tree of life inside the medallion.
The color of blue, red and cream give the pattern depth.
All colors are vegetable dyes.
The wool was hand spun.
And, this rug is over 50 years old, making it rare (and quite the collector’s item).
