Catalina Rug

1. What inspired you to begin your Persian rug collection?

We had always admired their beauty and finally had the opportunity in re-doing a home that we purchased with hardwood and tile floors  to pursue Persian rugs rather than other floor coverings.

2. How long have you been collecting rugs and how many do you own so far?

We owned 3  rugs prior to purchasing our present home. We now own 15 rugs, of which 2 are wall hangings, and have been collecting for 8 or 9 years.

3. What particular selection criteria do you have for buying a rug? Please share your tips and tricks with other rug enthusiasts. 

We are drawn to many  types of Persian rugs-city, village and tribal.. So we generally start in looking at patterns that appeal to us. It is a personal choice as to what you like that helps determine a rug that will speak to you.

At the same time, we typically look at knot count, age,  as well as color as to what we feel will fit best in our home.We have also been inspired to think out of the box and use Persian rugs as wall hangings for wall art.

4. Why did you choose Catalina?

We chose Catalina because the bulk of our redecorating the house coincided very closely with Covid, which drove us to search out internet sources. We very quickly found rugs on their site that appealed to us.

Realizing that reproduction of colors on a computer monitor don’t always fairly represent the beauty of the rug, we contacted Rose and asked that she text pictures of rugs we were interested in. She was and is incredibly helpful, both in texting pictures as well as explaining their meaning.

We have bought many rugs(5 to date) from Catalina, and Rose and Shawn are now like family.

5. Why Persian rugs?

There is nothing else like a Persian rug. It is truly amazing how rich and fulfilling the different rooms in our home look and feel because of the variety of patterns and colors in the rugs in them. It also makes us feel more  involved with history having these beautiful hand woven pieces in our home.
