Description

Bijar– The Iron Rug of Persia. This Bijar is 120-130 years old and yet still in excellent condition. A beautiful pendant medallion design is found in the middle of the classic brick red field.

The intricate motifs are found in all corners which are considered a breakthrough in weaving technique at that time.  The open field of brick red makes a visual depth between the medallion and the border. The black border matches with the highlight colors of orange, blue and beige, making this Bijar a true aesthetic enjoyment.

This Bijar has a knotting density of 361 kpsi. Premium wool with silk highlight. Pile height is trimmed to medium height of ⅓” – ⅜”. Strong cotton foundation for extra durability.

6,831 hours were used knotting this Bijar rug.

The Sacred Jewel - Turquoise

The medallion in the center features a diamond-shaped turquoise gemstone. This is perfectly resembled by the use of the rare blue-green color by the masterweaver in this Bijar.

In Farsi, turquoise is called “ferozah” or “firozah”. It means victory or heaven on earth. Turquoise, also called the “stone of life” is one of the most beautiful stones that represent the sky, water and earth. Turquoise was considered by ancients to be a sacred stone, protective against all manners of evil and ill health.

The blue color of turquoise was thought to have powerful metaphysical properties by many ancient cultures. In ancient Mexico, turquoise was reserved for the gods and could not be worn by mere mortals.

In this Bijar, The sky, water and earth is well-represented by the visual depth layers. The diamond-shaped turquoise jewel is floating on the brick-red field, complemented by small turquoise stones at the corners at different visual depths. The third layer of visual depth is formed by the black border with gold lining. This Bijar is truly a rare jewel to keep
