1. What inspired you to begin your Persian rug collection?
The collection of Oriental rugs, and now specifically Persian rug, started with my first home in 1999 – an Art & Crafts style home.
That is also the time I started to learn how interior design works and how to tastefully put things together in home furnishing with arts, style of furniture; as well as the selection of rugs.
In 2001, I traveled to the region of Andolucia Spain and also visited the Alhambra in Granada. In this part of Spain, with the influence of Moorish culture, I admire the beauty of the Islamic art which is characterized by its intricate and complex geometry, floral motifs, and horseshoe arches, as well as its use of shade, light and colors, which once again, remind me the beauty of Persian rug.
With appreciation of Arts & Crafts design style and admiration of Islamic art, acquiring Persian rug has become naturally a top choice of my art collection. With the beauty and quality of Persian rug,
why purchase anything else.
2. How long have you been collecting rugs and how many rugs do you own so far?
So far, I have collected about 13 Oriental rugs, in which, 5 of them are Persian rugs. I believe good quality of life encompasses of love, happiness and beautiful things around you. Persian rugs offer that, isn’t it!
3. What particular selection criteria do you have when buying a rug? Please share your tips and tricks with other rug enthusiasts.
My criteria of selection of Persian rug are its design patterns (I prefer geometric design) , colors (I tend to love richer colors.) and condition of it.
4. Why did you Choose Catalina?
Catalina Rug has incredible selection of rugs and the quality of its rug selection is excellent. That’s why I choose Catalina.
5. Why Persian Rugs?
Personally, I love the style of Arts & Crafts design, and it intrigues and inspires me to learn more about Persian rug – its origin, usage of color and design patterns.
Things that I love about Arts & Crafts style is its simplicity, richness of color and geometric design pattern, which I can also find in Persian rug design.
