Mahi and Herati Tabriz

Mahi and Herati Tabriz Rugs

Tabriz rugs are not only pleasing to the senses, but they are also highly popular due to their intricate, flawlessly executed designs.

The Herati design, also known as the fish or Mahi design, is characterized by small geometric shapes, often including small flowers or rosettes, enclosed in a rhombus and surrounded by leaves that resemble fish. This design, which originated in Farsi and translates to 'fish', is commonly found in rugs from Tabriz, Sarouk, Mashad Moud, Bijar, Zanjan, and Hamadan. It is known for its traditional, decorative appearance.

The Herati Medallion design features diamond shapes repeated inside and outside the central medallion, while the Herati Allover design features repeating diamond shapes spread throughout the field of the rug.
