Azerbaijan Runner

Azerbaijan Runner

In Azerbaijan, rug-making has long been a winter tradition for most families in the region. What sets this type of rug apart from other Persian rugs is that there are no set designs or blueprints for the rugs; instead, the older generation of weavers pass down their patterns to the younger generation, who then add their own personal touch to the rugs, introducing new variations.

To bring warmth and brightness to their homes during the winter months, weavers in Azerbaijan often use rich, warm colors in their rug creations. Red and blue are commonly used in these rugs, making them suitable for placement in neutral-colored rooms or high-traffic areas where stains and dirt may not be as noticeable.

Azerbaijan runner rugs are typically sized between 3' x 10' and 5' x 14'. Many of these rugs are made by weavers for their own personal use, and as a result, smaller sizes are more common. In fact, it is not uncommon to find Azerbaijan rugs and other village Persian rugs in smaller sizes, as they are more practical and useful for everyday use.
