The difference between handmade and machine woven rugs

Handmade rugs come in varying shapes, sizes and colors yet they all possess unique qualities that set them apart from machine woven rugs. Handmade rugs are primarily made out of wool but other fabrics such as cotton and silk may be used as well. Machine made rugs may also include wool but also possess man-made fibers. Another distinguishing characteristic of a handmade rug is that the fringe on the ends will be an extension of the actual rug while a machine rug will have the fringe added later. Slight inconsistencies may also be found in the pattern, or knots, of hand knotted rugs that are most noticeable on the backside of the rug.

Although these are just a few of the primary differences between the two types of pieces it can be difficult for the untrained eye to distinguish between the two kinds. That is why at Catalina Rug, Inc. our knowledgeable team is here to help you find the hand knotted rug that is perfect for your space.
